Prunus serotina
Also called Black Cherry, this hardwood is known for its beautiful, rich color and good working properties. We source the majority of our Cherry from northwest Pennsylvania and the northeast Ohio region. Trees from the region contain heartwood with a superior, consistent red color, better overall appearance, little gum and less sapwood.
Cherry is chosen for its fine uniform texture. It has straight grain and is reddish-brown in color with the occasional appearance of gum spots. Cherry is moderately dense, stable, has good working properties and finishes to a glass-like smoothness. The heartwood is particularly durable and has good resistance to decay. Cherry is a premium choice for fine furniture, cabinetry, panelling, tool handles, stair treads and high-end flooring.
