Soft Maple

Also called Red Maple (Acer rubrum) and Silver Maple (Acer saccharinum), Soft Maple is a readily available hardwood with distribution throughout the Eastern United States, Canada and Pacific Northwest. The term 'soft' is misleading as Soft Maple is a medium density hardwood, although not as strong and resistant as Hard Maple. A similar wood to Beech and Hard Maple, Soft Maple is often used as a substitute and can be stained to resemble other hardwoods such as Cherry.

Soft Maple has good working properties and can be machined well. It nails, screws and glues up satisfactorily and finishes nicely. With medium density and texture, Soft Maple has good stability and is moderately durable. All our material is selected for sapwood which is an off-white color. Heartwood color is inconsistent and ranges from pale tan to reddish grey and is sometimes streaked.

With many applications, Soft Maple is used in kitchen cabinets, doors, musical instruments, furniture, turnings, interior architectural millwork, crates, boxes and food containers.

• All material has been selected for sapwood (SAP)
• Length packaged: 6-7', 8', 9-12' and 13-16'
• Milling services available: surfacing, straightline rip, mouldings, moulder blanks, S4S, resawing
