Betulla alleghaniensis
Yellow Birch is distributed throughout the Eastern U.S., principally in the Northern and Lake States and Eastern Canada. Birch has a relatively dense, tight grain and uniform texture. Sapwood is a light tan to white color and heartwood is reddish-brown. Birch is reasonably available, but material runs narrow and short compared to Maple and similar species. Birch is commonly used in furniture, paneling, doors, interior millwork, kitchen cabinetry, flooring, turning and toys.
Working properties
Birch is heavy, strong and hard with good bending properties and shock resistance. It is fairly easy to work with, glues well and takes stain and finishes nicely.
Lumber Specs
- All lumber is kiln-dried (KD) and rough
- Birch is graded according to NHLA standard rules for FAS and Select for Birch and Red Birch
- Material sorted for Sapwood (SAP), Natural and Red color
- Lengths packaged 6-7’, 8’, 9-13’ and 13-16’
- Milling available: surfacing, straightline rip, moulder blanks, S4S, mouldings and resawing.
